So I picked up a pair of headphones today and gave our forthcoming addition...we're going to have a girl, by the way...her first lesson in music. I didn't want to force the Beatles down her throat from the start, so this was just a random sampling of stuff that happened to be sitting near the CD player. She got a little bit of hard stuff (the Darkness and Tenacious D), a little bit light (David Mead's cover of "Human Nature"), and, inevitably, we had to make sure the first song she heard was by Morrissey ("Irish Blood, English Heart"). But the best response came from...

3. Colin Hay, "Who Can It Be Now?" (acoustic)
2. Jason Falkner, "Do Ya" (from "Lynne Me Your Ears")

And #1, Johnny Cash's covers of "One" and "Solitary Man." She was moving and a'groovin' to the Man in Black...:-)

I think she gets that from her grandfather, but I'll test that theory next time for sure by playing her some Jolson...

P.S. Her name is going to be Allyson...indirectly inspired by listening to the Crayons' "Allyson Fell Off The Bike," which got me thinking, "Hey, why hasn't Allyson been in the running as a possible name?" Turns out my wife loved the name, so there you go: a pop girl from the get-go.

Latah,

WiLL
