So I caught Glenn Tilbrook & the Fluffers here in Boston last night, and I am
moved today to tell you ALL to go see him/them if/when they come to your town.
They played two absolutely electrifying sets, which convinced me beyond the
shadow of a doubt that GT is one of the greatest living
singer/songwriter/guitarists on the planet. He is that rarest and most
appealing of performers: one who has achieved an astounding level of musical
proficiency and has still managed not to take himself too seriously.

(And I realize this will seem like sacrilege to many, but the Fluffers are
every bit as good as Squeeze -- not the _same_ as, mind you, but as good as.)

The showstopper came toward the end of the 2nd set: GT led his band Pied-Piper
style through the crowd and over to the bar... where they all CLIMBED ON TOP
OF THE BAR and stood there in a line, with acoustic instruments that included
bongos, a melodica and an empty beer bottle, to treat us to a rousing
rendition of "Black Coffee in Bed" complete with audience participation.

Possibly the best eighteen bucks I ever spent.

Couldn't agree with you more, Andrea. Tilbrook and company played in Troy last night, and they rocked my socks off. Two long sets, divided nicely between solo and Squeeze material. They did the journey into the crowd thing here too, but took it out on to the back deck rather than standing on the bar. I thought the newer material came across better live than on record (especially the stuff from "Incomplete," an album that I found profoundly disappointing). Glenn's also a genuinely nice guy--his interaction with fans didn't come across as a put-on; he signed a ton of autographs (I've never seen that much vinyl at a show) and chatted with a bunch of folks after the show, rather than just making a dash for the tour bus. One of my favorite shows ever, and I've seen quite a few. So much fun. Highly recommended.

Plus, I got to open the show, which was, you know, pretty cool. Would have been cooler if I could have kept all six strings on the guitar, but things happen.

That reminds me: I'm playing a show with Butch Walker and Low Millions next month. Anyone here have anything to say on either act? I've heard little of Butch's solo stuff, and I know nothing of Low Millions (except that the singer is Leonard Cohen's kid). Thanks in advance.
