Posting WAY too much for one day. Funny this one, Steve, your mind and
mine must be wired similarly. I often reflect on how many treasures I've
found by way of Audities (and really almost all other pop related lists,
as it's only been thru Audities that I've gone on to Spectropop,
Shindig, BigTakeover, and many more - Audities is the 'mother' list for
me). Before Audities I'd been on a Van Morrison list that made me think
using my honey-based suntan lotion while I lay out by the fire ant hill
would have been more fun. By feeding the latent interest, I have NO idea
how many bands I've enjoyed over the last decade that I might never have
found or discovered but for this list.

Still, more to the point of your posting which is bands/artists I heard
discussed here first - I can't come up with a proper list straight away
- but a few that come quickly to mind:

Mark Johnson
Beagle
Dodgy
Paul Williams - Someday Man
Roger Nichols
Bill Fox / The Mice
The great obscure glam/glitter stuff of the 70s (thanks Bruce, RPM UK,
etc.)
The Beckies
The Sneetches
June and the Exit Wounds
The Rooks
Chris Von Sneidern
DM3
The Mutton Birds

And yes like you ...deeper love and appreciation for a host of bands -
Kinks, Hollies, Beach Boys, Left Banke, Harper's Bizarre, Bee Gees,
Zombies, Teenage Fanclub plus, plus, plus so many more.

Everyone give yourself a big hug from me. I really do appreciate it.

Craig

n.p. Yo La Tengo - Prisoners of Love (see you've done it again)

Subject: 20 Audities discoveries

Over the last half hour or so, I've just been thinking about making
the following list of "what are some of my favorite bands/artists that
I most likely would have never discovered if not for this list". In
part, think of the list as a way of reflecting on gratitude to the
members of this list at large and individuals whom have offered up
nuggets. Really, most of these I mention are among what I a great deal.
Also maybe it could even be an interesting thread to compare your
"audities discoveries" (if your are so inclined). Obviously, I thinking
back over 6-7 years or whatever it has been now.
For me, many artists jumped immediately to mind and are "obscure" to a
general music fans. But, as I think on it, there are several bands that
although I knew of them, I doubt I would have explored them beyond the
song
or two I knew.
What becomes clear is narrowing my list to 20 is nearly impossible
and I KNOW I'm forgetting many that I would include if I did it
tomorrow.

My list in no order

1) Pearls Before Swine
2) Scott Walker/Walker Brothers
3) Beach Boys (OK, I had Pet Sounds but doubt I would ever have gone
further without the gentle nudge I needed)
4) Honeybus
5) Nirvana "UK"
6) Buck Owens (yes, I accepted his genius via this list)
7) Lee Hazlewood
8) Doleful Lions
9) Harpers Bazaar
10) Kinks (naturally I knew of them but doubt I would have explored very
deeply)
11) Bee Gees (ditto to Kinks message)
12) Curt Boetcher
13) The Zombies (I now hardly belief my ignorance years ago, of this
band along with the others I've mentioned)
14) Loud Family/Game Theory
15) Left Banke (Loved the single but didn't know the rest)
16) Bergan White
17) The Sneetches
18) DM3
19) Chris Von Sneidern
20) Richard Davies

Best, Steve "I'd love to hear yours" D.
