Jerry Butler had an interesting take on Bacharach/David songs at the same time as Dionne Warwick's better-known versions. I particularly like "Message to Martha". If you're an NPR fan, there's was a great Fresh Air interview with Butler a few years back in which he discussed the differences in approach he took to Bacharach's songs, the aesthetic head-butting that ensued, etc.
