Hi Auditeers--Being the old git that I am, I have come to the realization
that any rock record from any time period which produces that life-affirming
euphoric rush in the listener IS powerpop, even if we didn't hear the term
tossed around freely until the likes of Badfinger, Raspberries, etc.
arrived.
If Buddy Holly was laying down the foundations of Merseybeat up to 1959,
then the majority of the following records qualify as fine powerpop "before
their time."
ANYWAY YOU WANT IT--DC Five
DO YOU WANT TO DANCE?-- Del Shannon, Beach Boys, Ramones (hey, it's ALL
good!!)
TILL THE END OF THE DAY--The Kinks
FRIDAY ON MY MIND--Easybeats
IF ITS LOVE, COME WHAT MAY--Bobby Fuller Four
SEARCHING FOR MY LOVE--The Other Four
I FEEL A WHOLE LOT BETTER--The Byrds
SO SAD ABOUT US--The Who
PLEASE PLEASE ME--Beatles
SHE LOVES YOU--Beatles
Oh yeah--love the lists of the last 30-plus years that are being posted!
