>Yes - and the sounds are lovely - no doubt. As a Jewish kid, I'll admit
- the lyrics are SO utterly unambiguous and are uniformly about Jesus as
my savior and my light - that every time I tune into the lyrics I feel a
little on the outside of this one. I'm wondering how others are hearing
it. I really do find the music gorgeous and agree with Jake - it's every
bit as good as Superdrag's finest sounds. I wish I didn't find the
lyrics to be a hurdle.
<Disclaimer - I know John personally, he's slept on my floor, we've worked in the studio together, I taught him Algebra One>
I think this is the classic "sinner reborn" effect - the swing of the pendulum way back to the other side (see "Slow Train Coming").
I'll bet he finds a middle ground next time and works in more metaphor and allusion than straight sing-it-in-church lyrics.
Or I could be completely full of shit.
