I don't know how many fans of the Continental Drifters we have in the ranks, but this is worth noting. They were a damned fine band and made some amazing records together. Peter Holsapple posted the following to the band's message board on 3 March:

Several days ago, Robert, Mark, Vicki (via fax) and I signed the papers that dissolve the limited liability corporation of the Continental Drifters. This means, technically, that the band is no longer a business and no longer liable for taxation. To be honest, with everyone gainfully employed elsewhere in and out of the music 'business', it is doubtful that there will be much activity from the band anymore. I'm sorry to have to be the bearer of this news, as you all have been very patient with us over our inactive years. But I think we all are grateful to everyone who has been a fan and has stuck by us.

The fate of the website is pretty much in the hands of Mark Walton as our webmaster, and his availability to maintain it will dictate its activity. Compact discs will still be available here as long as the site is up; we grabbed up as many Razor & Tie discs as we could before the company took all our titles out of print. We still plan on compiling a live CD and/or compilation DVD at some point in the future.

When it was running at full steam, the Continental Drifters were a band that had few peers. Many of my finest musical memories come from performances of ours. I think that anyone who ever played in the band, and anyone who ever guested with us, would agree that it was a singular experience, full of emotion, power and great music.

And realistically, bands have start and end dates. We have reached ours, at least for now. No door should ever be considered closed permanently, and I suspect that, very possibly, down the road we'll find each other and meet on the ledge once more.

Love,
Peter Holsapple
