Was the rationale behind this album that the tracks had to have spent time
at No. 1 in either the US or UK charts?
Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields never made it to No. 1 in the UK (kept off the
top slot by Engelbert Humperdinck's "Please Release Me", go figure).
Presumably only Penny Lane made it to No. 1 in the USA, cos the US charts
depend on airplay rather than sales, do they not? I'm sure I've read many
CD insert booklets listing chart placings and discovered that songs on
either side of the same piece of plastic need not have the same chart
placing in the USA.
Bob (currently digging the new Brendan Benson, even if there is nothing
quite as catchy as "Good To Me" on it)
