Been reviewing alot of new releases this month. Here are a few standouts
for anyone on the quest for new music..
- Jeff

THE 22-20's - s/t (Astralwerks) - Without over-wearing any one influence on their sleeves, this band of youngsters (average age is about 21) draws primarily from British blues and R&B and dishes it our full-barrel with their own brand of hypnotic psychedelia and garage-rock trashiness. Rock n' roll for music lovers.plain and simple. Amazing!

ASH - Meltdown (Record Collection)
I've sung the praises of this album already. 14 glorious anthems that recall the
heavy power pop savvy of bands like Silver Sun and the Wildhearts. If track #9 ("On a Wave") doesn't reaffirm one's faith the power of power pop...you ain't living!

GREY DOES MATTER - Rock Delivery System
Like their New York brethren Stellastar, Interpol and countless others, this band worships at the alter of all things 80s. Instead of taking the disco pop or post-punk route, however they have forged their retro sound on straight up, synth flavored POWER POP.straight outta 1982, baby! Imagine Kim Wilde, The Cars or Missing Persons with more brawn.

HOT HOT HEAT - Elevator (Reprise) Insatiably energetic.... with equal homage to the aggressive 60's sound of the Kinks and the Who and mod-punk heroes like Joe Jackson and The Jam. Vocalist Steve Bays still sings like a Ritalin-deprived Robert Smith with cottonmouth and the jerky, counterpoint guitar work of guitarist Dante Decaro highlights the angular, post-punk sound that should make this record right at home on modern rock radio. Very cool!
