A little late to be jumping into a thread initiated by Miguel (I think...) but I wanted to mention that my interest in The Sonics was piqued by a version of Psycho that was on the Mojo 'Instant Garage' compilation. I ended up buying a vinyl reissue of "Introducing The Sonics" on Beat Rocket/Sundazed. While it is a great album, I thought the version of Psycho on that album paled in comparison to the version on the Mojo comp. The version on the album sounds much more produced while the Mojo version sounds much more direct and raw (if that is even possible). My feeling is that it is an outtake or demo, since the ending is botched. The Mojo booklet states that this version is from the album Psycho-Sonic on Big Beat. Anyone have any information on either version of this track?

Miguel, if you haven't heard this version of Psycho, you really should. Gerry Roslie's screams are unbelievable.

One last thing. Some Mojo comps can be real 'iffy', but they did a lot of research for 'Instant Garage'. They unearthed a lot of Pacific Northwest bands (Wailers, Sonics, Gil Bateman, The Express, Little John and the Monks, Rocky and the Riddlers, Brave New World) for this comp. Too bad some of the other comps in this series were not as good.

Later,
Mark
