Just thinking as I cram new SOTT possibilities into the old Palm Pilot....

I used to pick up the year-end Billboard magazine and count the number
of the top 100 albums I had acquired that year. In the 70's and early 80's,
I would have a good many of them. As the 80's drew to a close, I had fewer
and fewer and in the nineties, single digits, tops. Now I relive that
feeling by checking David Bash's year end top 125 and noting those I have or
will soon acquire. Over 53 this year - thanks, David.

A new release that has blown me away - The Monarchs - "Make Yer Own
Fun". Every two years or so I luck onto a band that puts the power back
into the music and has the songwriting chops to boot. The 45s, Hellacopters
and now The Monarchs. There are at least 5 bonified gems on this release
and no filler.

I can't say enough about new This is Rock and Roll Radio comp. It feels
like 70+ minutes on the best radio station I've heard. The Flashcubes
tribute to Carl is stellar, the new Lolas tune ranks with their best and
the Shambles tune sounded great. The best cut on the disc is by The
Jellybricks. If this is any indication, their next CD will outshine "Power
This" significantly.

I was not as impressed with a couple of discs that were pretty highly
touted. After finally getting my hand on the Kicks s/t CD, I didn't hear a
single tune that warranted a second listen. David Bash's #2 entry by The
Embrooks didn't grab my ear as it did his, but it certainly is well-crafted.

I second Barry's props for BOC's "Secret Treaties". I loved the same 2
cuts ("Dominance & Submission" and "Astronomy"). I'm also fond of (the
intro especially) "Golden Age of Leather", which I think was on "Spectres".

'Raise your can of beer on high....'
