My take (for what it's worth) is that it may not be about money at all. It
may be a function of the fact that more "celebrity types" seem to be doing
commercials these days more then ever. I take it as some new exercise in
celebrity narcissism. Doing a commercial is now seen as cool (I know, hard
to fathom in a Burger King hat, I agree). Or as simply more exposure, rather
then beneath the artist's integrity. The once revered Robert Deniro (for
crying out loud) doing some cheesy add. Susan Sarandon political activist
doing commercials for skin cream!! What the?? Could she possibly think this
is another vital message she needs to get out to the populous? "Stop the
war! Feed the poor!! And don't forget the facial scrub ladies!!" They (and
countless others) clearly don't need the money but must get something out of
this. But yeah, it's mind boggling...
Maybe it's the new need for the "15 seconds of fame" fix for the already
famous...
