Songs that last a lifetime for me, are those in which the lyrics are
obscure or hard to understand, so that they can be interpreted
differently every time one listens to them. Louie Louie is a good
example of the latter, and American Pie is the former. The real
meaning of American Pie was, of course, was eventually figured out
(sort of). However, the words themselves are still poetic enough,
that they invoke different imagery, when I listen to the song.

Of course, one can go too far. I.e. R.E.M. lyrics are a bit too
obscure for me to put meaning too, although some of the phrases in
the lyrics themselves, are cool to listen to.

Pop and rock lyrics, that seem to sort of make sense, but which have
lots of imagery and possible different interpretations, is what I
would like to listen to. But unfortunately, few artists seem to want
(or be able) to write in that style.

Mark
