Cue Scratch SOTT 19 Feb '05
No real theme here, other than a bunch of cool tunes songs with some
coming from old vinyl. That’s when you might hear a cue scratch or two.

1. Resurrection Shuffle Ashton, Gardner & Dyke (45rpm).
More freak-soul than straight pop, this one’s from KJOY-AM’s air copy.

2. Something Happens the Evergreens.
Doo-wop by Dan Drowty and Herb Alpert. I met Drowty at the memorial
service for our mutual friend, Golden Apple’s Bill Liebowitz.

3. The Real Thing Michael Carpenter.
From MC’s "Baby", I love the way the harmony shimmers from the opening
notes.

4. Christabelle The Sorrows.
From a 2 LP set called "A Cheap Peek At Today’s Provocative New
Artists" this was a mostly new wave comp from the early ‘80s.

5. There Was a Time Spock's Beard.
From the Beard’s 2005 release, "Octane". The once prog-band moves
toward a gooey and delicious pop center.

6. Track 2 S A C (Self Against City) 2004 Debut EP.
This demo helped score a deal for a 2005 full-length release.

7. Out of Season Icicle Works. Even better than "Whisper to a Scream",
in my li'l opinion.

8. Nothing to Believe Neal Morse.
From the former leader of Spock’s Beard. "One" is another fabulous
concept prog CD. This song is taken from the bonus disc which also
features lots of cool cover tunes (Badfinger, U2, George Harrison, etc)

9. Hold On Jet. From the "Spider-Man 2" soundtrack.

10. Blackest Eyes Porcupine Tree.
GUILTY! I love pop & prog--and PT combines some of the best!

11. Teenarama The Records.
From 45rpm picture sleeve promo vinyl.

12. Damaged Goods Rusty Anderson.
From "Undressing Underwater", a really solid CD, especially for those
who loved Owsley’s first.

13. Walkin the Fence Couchois. More 45rpm vinyl.

14. Heaven Carl Wilson.
From 33rpm vinyl, is this what it sounds like in Heaven?

15. Do You Have Any Regrets? Darian.
From a '92 45rpm single, this features future Wondermints Darian
Sahanaja and Nick Walusko. Brian must have heard this, huh?

16. Sunshine Keane.
I’m honestly not sure how well "Hopes And Fears" will wear in the long
run, but this song is definitely a keeper.

17. For You Two Florapop.
"Sunshine Saturday" totally appeals to my cartoon, comics and
bubblegum-loving self. On JAM Recordings.

18. Happy? (Dumka) Jackdaw 4.
Lots of talk about "Gramophone Logic", with nods to Jellyfish as you
can hear for yourself.

19. Wichita Lineman. The Pearlfishers.
From an import CD single, David Scott does a nice rendition of the
Jimmy Webb classic.

20. Footstompin’ Music Grand Funk Railroad.
Another cue scratch to end this SOTT entry. I loves me some vinyl snaps,
crackles and pops!
