Just got the new CD from Mark Johnson and the Wild Alligators and DAMN, is
it ever terrific! Some of you may remember Mark from his two most excellent
releases 12 IN A ROOM (Not Lame) and LAST NIGHT ON THE ROLLERCOASTER.
The new one (which I believe is comprised of old recordings Mark did when he
was based in NYC) is akin to what the second Marshall Crenshaw album may
have sounded like had MC not hooked up with Steve Lillywhite---this is just a
fantastic, old school, slightly rootsy power pop disc. His sidemen here
include Wayne Kramer, Mike Mesaros and David Grahame.
Not sure when or where it's officially available yet (my copy is a CD-R). I
would imagine Bruce and Jeremy will have it available at some point. Mark
is playing IPO Nashville on 3/12 and is also doing a "writers in the round"
gig on 5/20 in Jersey with Willie Nile and Richard Barone. I'd definitely
recommend checking him out if you get the chance.
