Hey, Mr. Durben...
The band's album, "Too-Rye-Ay," from which "Come On Eileen" originates, is
really a strong album...from the lead track, "The Celtic Soul Brothers," to
the cover of Van Morrison's "Jackie Wilson Said." But anyone who tells you
that the band is strictly a one-hit wonder is A) probably not British, and
B) unfamiliar with any of the material from the band's debut album,
"Searching For The Young Soul Rebels," like, say, "Geno." I can't claim to
own the album itself, but I have a Dexy's best-of...just called "The Very
Best of Dexy's Midnight Runners," that includes material from the disc, and
it's all strong stuff.
If there are any other Dexy's fans out there, I'm curious to hear "Don't
Stand Me Down: The Director's Cut," but I remember the original version of
the album as being a bit of a snooze...but, then, that was not long after it
first came out, and I hadn't really done much musical experimentation beyond
the top-40 charts. Just wondering if this slightly-revised version is any
better...
Latah,

P.S. I can't wholeheartedly recommend Kevin Rowland's solo album, "My
Beauty," which I picked up whilst in England on my honeymoon, it's
definitely interesting. Not entirely interesting in a good way, but
consistently interesting. Really, there's no other way to describe an album
that features covers of "The Greatest Love Of All" and "Labelled With Love"
and has the singer in women's lingerie on the front cover...
