> November 1982, Nassau Colliseum, NY
> Headliner: Squeeze (first breakup tour - billed as 3rd to last show
ever!)
> 2nd opener: English Beat
> 1st opener: REM
> Squeeze was fine that night, but by then the live shows were a little anemic. English Beat were a revelation. REM was still mumbly.

I was also at that show, and had a great time! I remember enjoying Squeeze and The English Beat, but not really knowing anything about REM at the time, and just thinking the guitar sounded very cool. I believe it was the same year as The Who's first "farewell tour," including a show at Shea Stadium (with openers David Johansen, who I missed, and The Clash).

Another Nassau Coliseum show with a great first act was Neil Young, with Social Distortion opening.

I recall a July 1984 show with The Mosquitos opening for The dB's at Irving Plaza in NYC, lots o' fun. I also loved The Bangles / Hoodoo Gurus shows at Jones Beach & some NYC west side place (Pier something or other), thought I don't recall who opened. Either way, I thought they were great! ; - )

I wish I knew their music better at the time, but it was very cool to have seen Public Enemy open for The Beastie Boys at Lehigh U. in '87. Besides the funky-lookin' Flava Flav (sp?) with his big clock necklace, all I can remember is a pair of scary lookin' guys with Uzi's (fake, right?!) pointing out at the crowd during the set.

Be seeing you,
Bill
