You may be nuts, though not for your Jam comparison.
Ted put out a gap filler EP in 2003, and it included a
cover of The Jam's "Ghosts" (along with Split Enz's
"Six Months in a Leaky Boat", which inspired the title
of the TL/Pharmacists album Tyranny of Distance). He
did a solo tour to promote it, and his live version
was fantastic. He is one of the best live acts out
there nowadays.
