Actually, the first time Carrey opened for a Rock act was the Segarini Band
at The El Mocombo along with Twitch, Howie, Lou Dinos, Lawrence Morganstern,
Mike MacDonald, Steve Shuster, and "The Pulverizer", Steve Pulver, (Gimme a
cigarette, Poindexter...I left mine in the machine).
Jim was 15 or 16, slept on my couch quite a few nights, and took
uber-razzing from the other comedians. When we all used to hang out at
Myer's Deli in Yorkville, Jim used to be able to fish a cigarette out of his
shirt pocket, (on the left front of his shirt), with his right hand...by
reaching around the back of his head. Very odd. His best bit in those days
was Elvis as a muppet. Still makes me laugh.
I hear he did well...
