"Revisiting the SCTV stuff is a real treat.  The Plasmatics also performed a tune and played along with the bit as well."

My personal favorite use of a musician was an "SCTV Movie of the Week" in which chemist Ed Grimley drank a concoction that turned him, Jeckyll-and-Hyde style, into his alter ego: John Mellencamp.
