+++ oddest opener for a pretty odd headliner at that ... Van Halen
opened for Horslips @ The Palladium here in NY ...'77.

Styx used to open for everybody back around '77/'78 ...never blew
anybody away ...those guys opened for Be Bop Deluxe a ton of times back
then and never ceased to have me heading for the bar or the johns or
just catching some shut eye really. Most odd Be Bop bill tho
...Styx/The Dictators/Be Bop ...Capitol, Passaic, Oct/'77.

Saw Crack The Sky open for Be Bop a couple times in early '78. Those
guys blew Nelson and the "Drastic Plastic" then on the wane Be Bop
AWAY!

The Neighborhoods opened for both Drivin N Cryin (Marquee/NYC) and
Cheap Trick (Westbury Music Fair/Long Island) back around 90-ish
...blew em both down! Man. I miss the 'hoods!

True Believers were mentioned before. The TROOBS were one of my all
time favorite bands. EVER. Three guitar army there, brothers and
sisters. The Escovedos, Javier and Alejandro and JD Graham. They did
a show up at The Grotto in New Haven back in October of 86. One of the
highlites of my concert going career. Covers, unbelievable covers,
V.U. and Mott The Hoople and "Pipeline" and The Stooges. Really nice
down to earth approachable guys as well. That's always a nice bonus. I
think New Haven's own Valley Of The Kings opened that night.

Guadalcanal Diary mentioned before as well. Saw a "Battle Royal" dual
billed gig thing including them(at the time a fave band) and The
Brandos. Went for Guadalcanal whom of which opened actually. The
Brandos SMOKED em down that night tho. Brandos elpee never did
anything for me but they shined bright that night. The Ritz in NYC,
Dec/'87.

Mark

Cheap Trick opening for Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, 1978
R.E.M. opening for Husker Du, 1983
Rank and File opening for R.E.M. 1983

and of course, Sammy Hagar opening for Boston, 1978!
