In March 1986, The Trocadero in Philadelphia was re-opened after decades of neglect. I saw the second show they ever hosted - Marshall Crenshaw headlined.
The opener, however, changed my life. It was the first time I had ever heard (or heard of) Ben Vaughn. Their short set hit me in all the right places and I have been a devoted (and rabid) fan ever since.
I have seen countless shows over the years, but aside from maybe seeing McCartney, no show has meant more to me than the Ben Vaughn Combo opening set that night.
