Terry did some phone interviews including a lengthy one
with Michael McCartney (an Auds list member) of
KEAO/KONI from his home studio in the summer of 1997.
I was with Terry when he did that one.

Michael clarifies:

I wish that I could have done it from home. It was done "live". I was surrounded by vinyl records as if I was reading the back of a cereal box only with a microphone instead of a spoon in front of me. That was a magic moment for this Klaatu fanatic. Yes...you got me...it was a lengthy interview. I ask too many questions but - damn - it was Terry Draper. Aside from the Discoveries issue...I had never come across any interview from Klaatu since their first album release. So you can see why I had no choice but to ask a lot of questions. (lol)

Actually, to be honest, I do talk too much to musical guests on the radio show. There are a few list members here who have heard me and can verify this. It's a sickness. I need help. I just can't stop asking questions about their craft or what do they feed their pets.

The DJ who came on after me wasn't really thrilled with all the commercials that got bumped from the morning show that he now had to play. Traffic wasn't thrilled with having to reschedule the morning only commercials for the next day. It was all worth it to talk with Terry Draper and play Klaatu music on a freakin' morning show in the middle of the week on a Top 40/Triple A station. KPMW 105.5 FM - a class act that let me get away with anything I pretty much wanted to do.

It was also a life changing experience because right after the show ended my email and the stations' email and fax were flooded with questions and requests for copies of the interview. Because it was "live" I wasn't able to "open up the phone lines" for listeners to speak with Terry. It was a drag because we only had one line and Terry was on it. Word about this show must have got out because management came down to ask what was up because they had so many emails with addresses that were foreign to them which meant they were coming from around the world. This was my first experience with the power of the net and with carpel tunnel. I had to answer all of those emails.

Still feeling guilty about giving Terry Draper ear fatigue,
Michael McCartney
