Man -- so many AWESOME guitar breaks and solos
mentioned so far...whoever mentioned James
Honeyman-Scott's solo in "Kid" -- INSANE!!!!!
I'm sure I'll be scorned -- maybe even ridiculed --
for this, but, as far as catchy-like-lice guitar
breaks and solos are concerned, I think Slash is
pretty fraggin' amazing. Listen to any of the hits
from "Appetite for Destruction" and you'll know what I
mean. The guitar solo-section from "Welcome to the
Jungle" takes my breath away every time...total
attitude.
Someone mentioned earlier the guitar solo from Wings'
"My Love" (was that played by Denny Laine?) -- I
always thought Slash's overblown solo in "November
Rain" drew heavily from the "My Love" solo. Then
again, maybe it's just me.
I miss great guitar solos -- so much of today's music
is sorely lacking 'em. Too many rockstars, not enough
musicians.
I'm once again reminded of a quote by Steve Lukather
(an amazing guitarist himself): "Do you wanna be a
rockstar for five years or a musician for the rest of
your life?"
Good question.
