Ok... I think I set myself straight with this ongoing discussion... I sat down with the Wingspan DVD (what a great "gift" from Macca to the fans, btw)...
He states and I quote: "Just before the take Henry McCullough the guitarist come over to me, and he said, he whispered; Do you mind if I try something different on the solo?"... and he did this great solo out of nowhere"...
So, I gather that "the take" he's talking about is the studio one... I think the confusion about the TV special solo and the studio solo stems from the fact that when McCartney makes this quote on the "Wingspan" DVD they're showing the video version... I guess this makes you think that he changed it for the TV special (at least I thought so)... But honestly, somewhere in the back of my mind I seem to have a recollection of Macca stating the McCoullough solo change happening when the TV taping... oh well...
