I haven't checked out her records but I'm familiar with a couple of the
commercials that she's done (mostly the Click It or Ticket radio ad done for
TX DOT). I'm also based in Austin. The studio where she has done the
commercials, Tequila Mockingbird (http://www.tequilamockingbird.com), is
also home to some other fine local musicians such as Darin Murphy and Ben
McDonald and Kyle Crusham (from The Real Heroes). I don't know if she plays
any shows in Austin ; I didn't see any shows listed on her site.
I also went to see Darin Murphy last night at Flipnotics. People find out
he's leaving Austin for awhile and then they come out in droves to see him !
;-) He starts rehearsal for the Lennon musical on Feb 14th. If he has some
downtime, he hopes to play some solo shows in NYC, San Francisco, and
Boston. Keep an eye out for him this spring and summer. The songs that he's
written since Haunted Gardenias are absolutely amazing such as "Exile" and
"Paydirt".
The Golden Apples played a CD release show last night ; their new disc is
called "Cooler Jets Will Prevail". This record is a more "rocked out" due to
the addition of Geoff Lasch on guitar since the self titled GA record was
recorded. I believe that they're playing at IPO Chicago-ask David :-). The
Big Star influence is still there ; even the first track is titled "Big
Star." The dual harmonies of Christian Kurtz and Shannon Rierson keep me
hooked. I wish that they had a bigger audience in Austin though ; positive
reviews from the weekly Austin Chronicle just aren't enough...haha.
