<< As to the whole corporate sellout thing....the only time I get peeved is
when someone ELSE owns the artist's songs and does that (Jackhole selling
Beatles tunes, for example). >>
Does this then include when the Mac-hole
(just kidding) (I think)
rents Buddy Holly songs
out for window cleaning ads as well??
Just curious ;-)
.....and on the subject of
<< I've been outspoken about artists selling their songs for commercials--
for example, the Who; don't come to my town, play "Won't Get Folled Again," and
expect me to pump my fist in the air like it means anything, because it
doesn't. >>
Pete T. Himself
posted a quite wonderful open letter about exactly this
back on September 10, 2001 on his website, if memory serves:
Although (he says) he fully appreciates the important memories associated
with his past classics, and how recycling them for car commercials decades later
may bug some of his audience,
in THIS particular case ("Bargain" for Toyota I think it was), he decided to
do the deal because Keith Moon's daughter was in urgent need of funds for
medical attention and, believe it or not, John Entwistle was in danger of losing
his castle at the time!
So, as with most things,
there's more here than meets the eye (or ear, for that matter),
insinuating circumstances are very often at play out of public view
....and, wouldn't you just know it, the Ox ended up having to auction off
some of his beloved guitar collection afterwards to make country estate payments
anyways,
Gary "has a GREAT couple'a old tunes which would make ideal Windex and/or
hatchback jingles, btw" Pig
