I'm currently on a two-fold obsession:

1) The Negro Problem -- Welcome Black. What a great
album, to me anyway. Songs I can't get enough of are
the sublime "Watering Hole", the
Prince-meets-Wondermints-meets-P!nk-influenced "Out
Now" (both aforementioned songs written -- music and
melodies -- by Heidi Rodewald, lyrics by Stew), and
the ass-kicking, oh-so-funky "The Teadrop Explodes".
Aspiring songwriters looking for lessons need look no
further than "Bermuda Love Triangle (The Waterbed)";
incredible story with music to match. Stew: he's not
just for breakfast anymore (Heidi, too, for that
matter). Yummy goodness.

2) Yes -- Big Generator. Damn, I just cannot get
enough of Trevor Rabin's oh-so-'80's synths and
killer, k-i-l-l-e-r guitar work. Jon Anderson, as
always, is a comforting presence on lead vocals. One
of the best "prog-meets-pop" releases of the '80's.
Standout tracks include "Rhythm of Love" (complete
with a total Brian Wilson nod with the introductory
harmonies), and the title cut, a not-so-obvious stab
at "Owner of a Lonely Heart"-type success (as was the
lesser but still cool "Love Will Find a Way"). Sleek,
slick, smooth, polished, sterile, dated: call it what
you will, but I love this stuff (mostly for the
intricate, highly detailed guitar presence).

May rain find you,

NP: Yes - Drama (see how one obsession can lead to
another? And isn't it fun?)
