Can anyone comment on the Creative Labs Zen Touch player or the Nomad
Jukebox Zen series?

First of all, skip the Nomad Jukebox Zen.. altho' it's a few $ cheaper than
the new Zen Touch, it is already old technology and a bit bulkier too... for
just a bit more move up to the new Zen Touch...

I purchased the Zen Touch player this past Christmas and it R-O-C-K-S!...
The audio quality gets excellent reviews wherever you go to read on it (and
I agree... solid sounding)... The battery life is a hefty 24 hours and only
4 hours of charge time max... The menu is incredibly user friendly... The
"slider" takes a little getting used to and I recommend going into the
settings and making the sensitivity to the thumb slider "Low" to avoid your
menu bar to scroll past your selections too quick...

Two cons tho'... Lose the supplied earbuds that come with the Zen Touch, it
just doesn't do the player justice... go to a CompUSA store and invest in a
good pair of Sony earbuds (I saw one pair going for $50 that actually
isolates you from outside noise)... and the other con is that the
instructions are not clear at all as to how to perform downloads from your
PC to the unit... If you're computer savvy you won't have a problem but
otherwise what you do is use the supplied software and use the Creative
MediaSource Organizer to convert your CD's to MP3 format... find out where
that conversion goes to (usually to "Documents and Settings" folder) then
once the MP3 transformation is finished go to "My Computer" click on the
Nomad / Zen icon and drag the created music folder into that window and via
the 2.0 USB cable in seconds your album will transfer... Oh yes, another
small con... sometimes the albums don't (for some reason... tag reasons I
guess) don't transfer in the order of the original album.. I've had to go to
the MediaSource Organizer and re-name the songs placing a 1a, 2b, 3c, etc.
in front of the songs title so they'll reorder properly... doesn't happen
all the time but occassionaly... Other than those small "cons" (and which
manufacturer doesn't have them?) the Creative Zen is, IMHO, the superior
choice! I don't leave home without it!

Cheers,

Miguel

I realize that the iPod is probably the best player, but I'm considering
this for a number of reasons such as price and avoiding the hassle of the
proprietary iTunes format.

Thanks.
