I've always loved Paul Carrack. Those records he did with Nick Lowe right
after leaving Squeeze are some of my favorites from that era. They've got
Carrack's soulful voice coupled with the same warm production that Lowe
instilled on tunes like "Cruel to Be Kind."
And even though Carrack's 1987 solo record (whose name escapes me at the
moment -- it was the one with "Don't Shed a Tear For Me" on it) was kind of
sterile production-wise, it had a brilliant collaboration with Chris Difford
on a tune called "Button Off Of My Shirt."
What is he up to these days? I know he put out a solo record on Miles
Copeland's old Ark 21 label a few years back. But I've sort of lost track of
him since then.
