WARNING: All those tired of the McCartney thread, please delete this
loooooong and winding message right here and now....

Okay. I love most things Paul certainly his Beatles stuff, and most of
his 70s output. I really like Flowers in the Dirt, and there are a few
other bright spots in the 80¹s to current. But as much as I am a fan, my
collection of his material suffers, and I want too make amends. To do so,
I went online and compiled an album and single discography - I¹ve included
it below for reference, or if anyone wants a copy of it for their own.
Some observations and some questions:
- Mac put out about 1 pop album a year post-Beatles, up until the mid-80s.
I thought he was even less prolific after that, but have now discovered
that he¹s released a lot of non-mainstream stuff that never ever crossed my
radar screen. All in all, counting the live releases and experimental
and/or classical pieces, and NOT counting the ³best of² albums, he¹s
averaged about 1 a year up to now. Not bad, for a geezer!
- There are a lot of releases that I¹m curious about does anyone have an
opinion on whether or not the following are worth seeking out and or buying?
(I¹m assuming most if not all of these are nothing at all like the work most
of us know him for)
Choba B CCCP: The Russian Album (88) - live? / oldies
Liverpool Oratorio (92) - classical/experimental (this is the only one
of the bunch I¹d ever heard of before!)
Strawberries, Oceans, Ships, Forest (94) - classical/experimental
Standing Stone (97) - classical/experimental
Rushes (98) - classical/experimental
Working Classical (99) - live?
Liverpool Sound Collage (2000) - classical/experimental
- Regarding Mac¹s singles, nothing much has charted over the past few
decades. (discouraging, I¹d bet...)
- I have McCartney, Ram, Band on the Run, Venus and Mars, and Wings over
America from the 70s -- and love them all. Are Speed of Sound, London Town,
and Back to the Egg worth owning, or would I be better off with a comp of
the best of the 3? If so, what would you recommend be on that comp?
- The only 80s release I have is Flowers in the Dirt, and I¹m a fan of it.
I know I need to get Tug of War; but from what I hear, the other 80s
releases are rather spotty. If there was to be a good comp (or 2) made of
the first 5 80s releases (McCartney 2 through Press to Play), what would be
on it?
- I have most of his 90s stuff (minus the classical and experimental) - but
I never listen to it. What songs do y¹all like from Off The Ground, Flaming
Pie, Run Devil Run, and Driving Rain? I.e., lets have a comp including ALL
of the good stuff, and omit the throwaways...
- Which of his singles are not found on albums? Of those, which are worth
seeking out?
This is asking a lot, and many are probably tired of this thread. So, feel
free to respond off list if you wish...
