Also, the way to get around the issue with iTunes proprietary format, 
which really only applies to songs you buy from the iTunes store (which, 
rocks, btw), is to burn those songs to a disc, and then rip the disc to 
mp3. That seems to be the easiest way for me. Does anyone else have a 
better way?
