I do more lurking than I would like, but I had to get
my list in there before the deadline...

(and I noticed a Lazarus reference in the last batch
of posts... I worked at Bearsville for their 2
albums... that was a tough one to get on the radio,
and they didn't have the presence to really "break"
via the press. But, it was refreshing to see them
mentioned.)

OK... My Top Albums of 2004:

1. Eugene Edwards - My Favorite Revolution (so
refreshing. absolutely flawless --- for me --- from
start to finish. May 2005 bring it to the public.)

2. Keane - Hopes And Fears (just one of those albums
that every song just makes me smile -- and I have
turned many friends on to it that HATE it. Oh well)

3. Tremolo - Love Is The Greatest Revenge (great
songwriting, performances made for the radio. It's
lumped into a Matchbox Twenty/Train sorta thing, but I
think it's WAY better than that.)

4. Brett Dennen - Brett Dennen (he's a folkie for
sure, but I got addicted early in the year and get my
fix almost daily. Big star in a year or two.)

5. Gabriel Mann - Lighted Up EP (I am privvy to
hearing the 2005 album and this EP is a perfect
pre-cursor. I saw Billy Joel in 1971 in a room with
about 30 people. This guy reminded me of that gig...
many times this year.)

6. Todd Rundgren - Liars (I think I was just happy he
wasn't called TR-i or doing Bossa Nova... seriously,
there's some excellent material on here, and I
listenend "faithful"ly.)

7. Jill Sobule - Underdog Victorious (been a fan for
too long not to continue to recognize her songwriting
talents.)

8. The Features - Exhibit A (Nashville band with a
very obscure major label release. See them live. The
drummer makes Keith Moon look like Charlie Watts...
and that's a direct quote from Rupert Hine :) )

9. Brian Wilson - Smile (I wasn't over the moon, but I
was pleased nonetheless.)

10. The Killers - Hot Fuss (yeah... and I watch The
O.C. too... sue me.)

11. John Hoskinson - Miscellaneous Heathen (all those
Eugene Edwards gigs sucked me in. Very overlooked
record.)

12. Blue October - Argue With A Tree (limited release
to appease the fans. basically a live album with all
the songs from History For Sale, which was my #1 album
of 2003.)

13. Andy Kim - I Forgot To Mention (Canadian EP to
capitalize on the success of a single co-written with
Barenaked Ladies' Ed Robertson back in 2001... and now
it's a hit on Canadian AC radio. And I LOVE it... and
have since 2001.)

14. Audio - Evan Olson (I was involved in signing him
at Universal about 5 years ago, and have never given
up on his talents long after the label did. This
album's really good, but next year's album... WOW!)

15. William Shatner - Has Been (Ben Folds and John
Painter are the glue. They do very little wrong in my
book.)

16. Kevin Hearn and thinbuckle - Night Light (Shitty
distribution through Hybrid has made this album a
great big secret, but the quirky BNL
multi-instrumentalist has the charm of Harry Nilsson
and another great set of songs to go with it.)

17. Loretta Lynn - Van Lear Rose (interesting, as I
have never really given the White Stripes much of a
chance.)

18. Sunny Ledfurd - Imported Sounds From North
Carolina (One ill-fated major label album about four
years ago, and now poised for a comeback with Uncle
Kracker/Kid Rock/Dynamite Hack-like songs that should
be spring break favorites for buff tattooed college
kids -- of which I am not, and have never been one.)

19. Nellie McKay - Get Away From Me (this one crept up
on me. Songs kept coming up in iTunes shuffle mode,
and eventually I realized, I like this ALOT.)

20. Scissor Sisters - Scissor Sisters (definitely a
flavor of the month record, but for me the month is
June, 1975.)

MIA: Yazbek, Gregg Alexander

Disappointments: Eminem, Hall and Oates, John Fogerty,
Rufus Wainwright

Stupid Admission (I forgot to listen): Finn Brothers

2005 Anticipation (since I have listened more to these
in 2004 than many of the bottom of my top 20): Imogen
Heap, The Vanity Project, Evan Olson (Take The World),
Pepper's Ghost (Shake The Hand That Shook The World),
The Rubinoos
