I'm sure it's too late to count in the polls, but I have just moved Mike
Viola and the Candy Butchers' "Hang On Mike" to the #1 spot on my list. I
haven't seen a whole lot of talk of this on the audities list, just a few
comments here and there - but I have to say it's aces in my book. Great pop
songcraft. Fantastic and original melodies. The song melodies actually MOVE
(i.e. They don't repeat the same melodic phrase ad nauseum - see Polyphonic
Spree, who have a sound and feel that I really like, but I wish their songs
could incorporate more movement and less repetition...)

One of Hang On Mike's best qualities is the lyrics and song concepts - they
really speak to me. As for the sound, it's top notch, with great use of
piano in the mix (along with the usual guitars, bass and drums). There's
not a ton of vocal harmonies, but where they are, they're awesome. I think
this is their best album since the unreleased Blue Thumb disc. All killer,
no filler.

FYI, I have extra copies of Live At Bonboniere and Falling Into Place for
trade or sale. Please contact me off list if interested. Bonus points for
anyone who has any M Viola/Candy Butchers EP's for sale or trade.
