Well, I almost managed to get 10 this year, but I’d bet it would be a lot longer list if I actually had time to listen to half the CDs recommended on Audities.

The Rosenbergs – Department Store Girl.

By far the CD I spent the most time with this year. I didn’t like it that much initially – I was afraid it wasn’t going to live up to the great “Mission: You” or even “Ameripop”. I thought that the departure of bassist Evan Silverman was a huge loss. After several listens its brilliance began to shine through and I can’t believe it’s not on more Top 10 lists. The best song on the CD isn’t even on the CD – it’s a track called “Best Friends” that’s included in the Enhanced CD part of the disc. Bravo, David et al!

   Cloud Eleven – Terrestrial Ballet

I’ve said this before: Rick Gallego is one unbelievable talent that is terribly underappreciated except by those on this list. Hell, even his outtakes, tributes and B-Sides sound great to me! An instant breath of California sunshine on a winter’s day.

Cliff Hillis – Better Living Through Compression

Cliff shows great maturity in his song writing, singing and playing since “Be Seeing You” which was also a Top 10 of mine. I can’t decide if I want him to do more solo work or continue to be part of IKE? How about both, Cliff?

   Todd Rundgren – Liars

His first real CD of new material in 10 years and worth the wait. I’m one of those in the camp of “I could live without all the mechanical drums and sixteenth notes”, but the songs are still strong and the live tour was his best in years. The guy still "has it" when he wants to. Step away from the computer, Todd!

The Finn Brothers – Everyone Is Here

FINALLY an album that would sound great next to my Crowded House collection. There have been good individual songs and promising CDs before, but this is the first one that put it all together.

   Michael Carpenter – Rolling Ball

It’s been great to hear Michael’s musical evolution since “Baby”. After reading comments on Audities, I’m kicking myself for not ordering the alternate version as well.

Doug Powell – Day For Night

Still one of the best voices and clever songwriters around. I must admit I’m more a fan of his pure pop stuff like “Curiouser”, “More” and his work with Swag, but I’ll follow him wherever his muse takes him, much like his influencer Todd R.

   Owsley – The Hard Way

A little “harder” than his s/t debut, but solid nonetheless.

9. Farrah – Me Too!

No one song is as good as “Living For The Weekend” from “Moustache”, but still very enjoyable.

Probably not eligible, but if it was…

Rich Creamy Paint – Lovers

Cats & Dogs – This Life (Bob: when’s “Grand Pop” going to be finished?)
