BEST OF 2004:
1. Keane - Hopes and Fears
Most of the 2004 releases that I have heard so far, were albums that have a
few great songs, but also a few dull ones. There weren't many albums that
captured me from beginning to end. The Keane album is the album that came
closest.
2. Whiles - Color of the Year
Not really power pop, but some great songwriting here. With Emily and
Lonesome Reply as standout tracks. A mix of soft rock, pop and some country.
The band was previously known as Mr. Children. http://www.thewhiles.com/
3. Bowman - Living To Dream
4. Frauds - s.t.
5. Doug Powell - Day For Night
6. Sheer - The Keyword is Excitement
This band is from The Netherlands. Great album, that received a lot of
attention by the music press in Holland.

7. Seth Swirsky - Instant Pleasure
8. Dotted Line - s.t.
(I don't know if this one counts as a 2004 or 2005 release. If 2005, please
delete and let all the rest move up one place).
9. Butch Walker - Letters
10. Louis Eliot - The Long Way Round
11. Michael Lord - Sway
Another great Indy release. Lord is from LA and has written and produced a
wonderful album. www.michaellord.com
12. Green Day - American Idiot
13. Raquel's Boys - Music For The Girl You Love
14. Dolour - New Old Friends
15. Glen Burtnik - Welcome To Hollywood
16. Vestals - s.t.
Another great Indy release that hasn't been mention much, if not at all, on
Audities. Time to check it out.

17. Collective Soul - Youth
18. Christopher Dale - Pick Me Up

19. Tripsitter - California Son
20. David Grahame - Eric
21. A Girl Called Eddy - s.t.
Best EP's
1. Monopoli - s.t.
The EP opens with two of the best songs of 2004: Love & Fast Enough To Kill
You. If EP's were valid for a Top 20 spot, this one would be my #1 of 2004.

2. Barry O'Brien - Spark

3. Spiraling - Challenging Stage

Best CD's of 2003 that I discovered in 2004:
(and that would have made my Top 3 in 2003)
Zach Ziskin - Real As The Memory
Not a bad song on this album, the best album I discovered in 2004.
www.zachziskin.com
Round2 - So Far Outside
Toronto based band that I discovered through the song 'She'. I haven't heard
any mention on the Audities list about this release either, but maybe I have
just missed it. Also a winner from start to finish. Easily the 2nd best
album I heard in 2004. www.round2music.com
No SMiLE on my list. The concert (in Antwerp) was brilliant and the music is
as well, but I have always considered it and still see it as something that
was created in the Sixties, albeit finished and released in 2004.
By my standards it was not one of the greatest years in pop, but please keep
all those recommendations coming on this list. And thanks to all those who
helped me pick up all those releases that made my list this year.
