Hi Everyone,

Here are my lists of favorite albums of 2004. As is my usual custom, I’ve
broken this down into several categories, as I’m just not comfortable
ranking unlike entities on one list…

Contemporary Categories

I. Top 125 Albums: I could extend this list at least by another 75 and still
say that I thought every album on the list was a good one, but it had gotten
to the point where I had a difficult time distinguishing between 126-200,
let alone between 126-127...

Reissue Categories

There are still some reissues I haven’t heard which would probably rank, but
there’s only so much time and $$…ok, mainly $$; I’ll always somehow find the
time. :-)

I. Top 50 Proper Albums

For this category, only the following albums qualify:

a. those that are on CD for the first time
b. those that had been previously issued, but are now out of print or
difficult to find
c. those in whose current issue have lots of bonus tracks, or some other
unique feature

With the above in mind, while quality is the major factor in determining the
rankings, other factors such as number and type of bonus tracks, as well as
liner notes, etc…do come into play.
