McCartney has become an erratic shark jumper (Pipes Of Peace, Press).
Every time I think he's purged the shark from his act, he brings it
back for a command performance. I'm still in shock that he followed up
the very good Flaming Pie and the excellent Run Devil Run with the
god-awful Driving Rain. Besides the dreadful ear-worm called Freedom,
there is not one song off of it that I can remember or hum. It's like
his craftsmanship completely abandoned him (or he abandoned it). While
I think his current band is leagues better than the Hamish
Stewart/Robbie McCintyre one, I can't understand how his new material
is so pitifully weak and boring. McCartney needs someone he respects to
tell him to cut out the shite (Lennon seemed to be the only one who
pulled this off).
