D. Bash:
<<Hi Everyone, In light of the âFranz Ferdinand vs. The Indie Bands Of The
Worldâ discussions on Audities, I would like to recommend that we all make the
following New Yearâs Resolution:
The Not Lame website is updated each Friday, adding new releases and other
items theyâve recently acquired. Letâs all put a half-hour aside each week to
go to the Not Lame site and listen to the sound clips on each of the new CDs
for that week. I would recommend that we donât even read the descriptions,
as they might color our perceptions before we listen (yeah, Iâm sure that the
descriptions would âwarnâ us which CDs to avoid, but sometimes itâs better
to just let the music do the talking. The worst that can happen is that we
spend maybe 30 seconds finding out that we didnât like
that CD; but on the other hand, we just might find something cool that we
otherwise wouldnât have bothered checking out).
By listening to the clips on www.notlame.com we accomplish three very
important things: 1. We get turned on to some great new music
2. Weâre able to focus our attention on music that otherwise gets very
little, if any, press. While I know that Auditeers have not been âdupedâ by the
hype machine into buying albums by the Franz Ferdinand of the world, itâs
difficult to deny that the press these albums get does draw our attention to
them. Letâs allocate some of that attention to the indies, which are just as
deserving of it.
3. We give a significant portion of our record buying income both to Not
Lame and to some worthy bands. A half-hour a week. Thatâs all I ask. :-)>>
Or folks here could just simply buy some CD's from Not Lame, either on a
regular or a semi-regular basis. That'd be cool, too. It's a great site, with
a wide variety of superb pop music, and if anyone has done more than Bruce
Brodeen over the years to further the cause and fly the pop flag, I'd like to
hear about it.
This not to slight anyone else or any other label, by the way.
