Yes, possibly true, at least her label would be working that angle for top
sales affect.
I think if you give the entire Cd a fair shake you might adjust your opinion
a tad.
Novelty? Well, that's the knee-jerk reaction I guess... but my personal
opinion is that she offers a rare and unique hybrid style that isn't too far
off base from a few names I've seen tossed out; i.e. Julie London.(Julie was
considered a bit edgy and sassy back in her day)
And I recall reading that she(Nellie) was19 years old-when this CD was
tracked? I dunno about you guys, but I wish I had that kinda charismatic
talent at 19 (or any age for that matter). I find some of her songs to be
down right complex, when you factor in "music and lyrics" as an unbelievable
perfect match and mood (see *I Wanna Get Married).
I was hearing George and Ira, Cole and Irvin when I first played this Cd.
Good stuff. Wouldn't mind seeing some more old school talent float to the
top.
