I just got an e-mail from David Foster of Bubble that Nellie McKay is
participating in a live performance of the Beatles' Revolver that he's
organized. I personally don't know anything about her and after reading the
lyrics to the "Clonie" song -- no offense to anyone; it's all subjective --
I doubt I'll be checking her out. But anyway, here's the notice I got for
all those interested:
On SUNDAY, JANUARY 16th, as part of Cathylands CLASSIC ALBUM NIGHT at
Arlenes Grocery, the band BUBBLE along with an all-star cast of friends
is performing a tribute to the 1966 Beatles LP REVOLVER. The show begins at
10 pm at 95 Stanton Street (near Ludlow) in Manhattan. Admission is $7.
This show is being lovingly pulled off by a talented cast of New York
musicians and friends, heroically led by Bubbles DAVE FOSTER, who will be
playing lots of guitar and singing his Beatle-loving butt off. Also singing
their Beatle-loving butts off will be NELLIE MCKAY, MIKE VIOLA (of The Candy
Butchers), DAVID POE, JASON TRACHTENBURG (from the Trachtenburg Family
Slideshow Players), BRIAN DEWAN, SEAN ALTMAN and JULIAN MAILE, LIANNE SMITH,
CATHY CERVENKA, JOE PECORINO (from the original cast of BEATLEMANIA!), and
SERENA JOST. The band BUBBLE includes guitarist/vocalist JON SPURNEY (from
the musical PEOPLE ARE WRONG!), bassist/vocalist ALEC CUMMING (formerly of
THE SHARP THINGS), and drummer TOM DEVITO. CLAUDIA CHOPEK will be playing
violin, MIKE KOBRIN, TONY SALVA and ANDREW HOGLUND will play trumpet,
saxophone and flugelhorn, and MIKE BOWMAN will play percussion.
