I've been reading a cracking book which looks back at rock/pop history: "A
Wop Bop a Loo Bop, A Lop Bam Boom" by Nik Cohn. It's a reprint and was
originally written back in 1969 when the author was still in his early 20s.
I love the way he writes, and the way he's totally unafraid to knock down
sacred icons (Dylan, Dusty Springfield). He also sings the praises of some
who we now look back on with some amusement (P.J. Proby). OK the
perspective of looking back at 10 - 15 years of rock history has been
superceded now we have 50 years of history to work with, but I think this
is a great little book, well worth a read for pure entertainment value,
even if you disagree with the opinions he had back then.
