If it's still in print, Rhino put out an excellent compilation of Nez's RCA
recordings, THE OLDER STUFF: THE BEST OF THE EARLY YEARS. I'd start with
earlier material like this, which is more country-flavored and inviting than some
of Nez's late-'70s records. His concept album THE PRISON is most definitely
NOT a good place to start, nor is its sequel, THE GARDEN. I also quite like
his early '90s album, TROPICAL CAMPFIRES. Go to his website, videoranch.com,
and you can get a sense of what's available. (Personal fave tracks: "Joanne,"
"Silver Moon," "Some Of Shelly's Blues" from the early years, "Cruisin'" from
the late '70s, "I Am Not That" and "Rising In Love" from TROPICAL CAMPFIRES.)
And remember to save the Texas Prairie Chicken.
