It's not that I think the RRHOF deserves to be taken seriously, it's just
another opportunity to air opinions on who SHOULD be honored. And that
discussion ain't ever gonna get old, as far as I'm concerned. (And I was thrilled when
The Ramones were inducted, so what the hell.)
Last year, we dedicated an entire episode of our radio show to worthy,
eligible acts that were not yet in the RRHOF. We made mention of the single
most egregious non-performer omission (BRIAN EPTEIN? Hello...?!), and played
a track apiece from each of the following:
THE SEX PISTOLS
THE KINGSMEN (yeah, one immortal track is PLENTY good enough)
BADFINGER
TODD RUNDRGEN
JOHNNY BURNETTE'S ROCK 'N' ROLL TRIO
THE SONICS
THE SPINNERS
THE SWEET
PAUL REVERE & THE RAIDERS (also honring songwriters Mann and Weil)
THE EASYBEATS
BLACK SABBATH
ALICE COOPER
THE SHANGRI-LAS (plus producer SHADOW MORTON)
DICK DALE & THE DELTONES
T. REX
ROXY MUSIC
THE O'JAYS (belatedly inducted this year; now howzabout producers GAMBLE &
HUFF?)
THE TURTLES
MOTT THE HOOPLE
BIG STAR
THE SEARCHERS
THE TROGGS
WANDA JACKSON
LOVE
THE MONKEES
MOBY GRAPE
THE BEAU BRUMMELS
DAVE EDMUNDS
THE DICTATORS
BLONDIE
SLADE
THE STOOGES (and IGGY POP)
LESLEY GORE
THE SMALL FACES
THE HOLLIES
THE ZOMBIES
THE RASPBERRIES
THE JAM
THE DAVE CLARK FIVE
THE 13th FLOOR ELEVATORS
THE CRYSTALS (and DARLENE LOVE)
NICK LOWE
MICHAEL NESMITH
LINK WRAY
KISS
JONATHON RICHMAN & THE MODERN LOVERS
THE VENTURES
DONOVAN
THE MC5
THE LEFT BANKE
THE NEW YORK DOLLS
THIN LIZZY
ARTHUR ALEXANDER
CHEAP TRICK
That was all we had time for, though we also mentioned The Bobby
Fuller Four, Jan & Dean, The Stylistics, Motorhead, Television, Toots & the
Maytals, Devo, The Ronettes, Phil Ochs, NRBQ, Deep Purple, Suzi Quatro, The Moody
Blues, John Hiatt, Neil Diamond, Patti Smith, The Runaways, The Shadows and Tommy
James & the Shondells.)
