The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame itself is meaningless.
Unlike a sports hall of fame, it's so hard to coming
up with precise standards to make such a project live
up to billing. Moreover, when you add the influence
of corporate money, etc., the R & R Hall of Fame falls
so short of really honoring the depth, breadth and
quality of rock.
So who actually makes the real Hall is a bogus topic I
suppose. However, the induction is somewhat
representative of mainstream thought on rock music --
at that level, who gets selected is interesting fodder
for discussion. So, when I posted this morning, my
point was really that while the Pretenders had made
great music, The Pretenders weren't that great of a
band. Just my opinion.
