Once you induct the really great rock artists, what do you do then,
if you want to keep having a yearly induction ceremony? You induct
the next level.
I bought the Pretenders LP as a young adult, and thought it was
great. However, back then I also still had raging hormones. A
sultry female singer with suggestive lyrics was just what I was
looking for. Years later, when I dusted off my old LPs and
relistened to them, The lyrics had much less effect of on me (sound
pretty dated also). So instead, I starting listening to the music
itself, and I found the instrumetnation pretty average, and the
guitars weren't loud enough to get a good blast from (too radio
friendly for me). So I ditched the LP.
Should a group be inducted to the Hall of Fame on the basis of a
unique and very popular LP? Sure, why not. Because, how are you
going to allow any artists from the 1990s and 2000s into the Hall, if
you don't allow the Pretenders in?
