The whole tribute band thing is lost on me. I've seen and heard people
actually screaming at these events like an actual Beatles concert circa
1964. If people enjoy these dramatic portrayals with middle age men
dressing, talking, singing, playing and now putting out CD's in the
spirit of the the actual fab four as young men in their early twenties,
I guess that's their business, but I just I can't help feeling that
it's all so absurd because the phenomenon of the actual Beatles and
their time an place in history is just what it is - history. There is
no guts or magic to it for me. Anyway, it's antithetical to what the
Beatles as a rock and roll band were all about anyway - moving forward
artistically not backwards. Those tribute shows are like the Civil War
or Revolutionary War re-enactments that people stand around and watch.
If I want to watch the Beatles, I'll put Anthology and other assorted
live footage in my DVD player and see the real thing - not somebody's
very artificial reconstruction of them.
