Subject Beatles Cover bands

So some bands sound uncannily like the Beatles and make CDs of near 100%
replica covers of Beatles songs.  Can anyone explain to me the point of
this (other than "Look how much this one sounds like the original!") ?
Granted such bands probably have a good following for live gigs, cos most
of us were too young to see The Beatles in concert.  But CDs too?  I can't
imagine ever wanting to listen to them in preference to the originals.

Far more interesting to me are bands who either do their own songs in
Beatles style (eg Spongetones, or even Rutles!) or do Beatles covers in a
different way (eg.  The Punkles from Germany - they only do Beatles covers
in Ramones style!).
