I'd say look for Taiyo Yuden-- either branded or made for other 
manufacturers-- or Matsui; these are probably the best CD-R brands.

As for storing CDs on the hard drive-- I sure hope that doesn't mean 
converting the CD's original wave files to lossy MP3.  I've got a 250 meg 
hard drive, but maybe 10,000 CDs, and there's no way I could store them all 
on the hard drive.
