 I wish I could help but I am not familiar with macs. But anytime
I have had problems with my ipod I run over to www.ipodlounge.com
they are all really helpful, plus there is a ton of information.
I have used the boards before and always gotten an answer. 
 They might know of a program or some tool that has been written
to help you.
